Sample Lesson Plans from ABC Nursery - March 2007 – Drama lesson plans

Week One - Fantasy Pet Shop – listening, imagination, projection

What if your pet was a dinosaur? Would he fit into your house? What would your Mum & Dad think about your pet? Perhaps even a space monster? What will it need to eat and drink? How will you get it home from the pet shop? Where will we take it for a walk? In role the teacher will set up a pet shop selling extraordinary pets, do the children come up with their own ideas or copy the teachers suggestions?

Week Two – A day in the life of Hamish the Hedgehog – Role play, creative development

The children will listen to the story of Hamish the Hedgehog. He usually doesn’t come out untill it gets dark, sleeping all day under a pile of leaves. We experience his life of eating slimy slugs, snuffling about, rusting and scratching our way around because he can’t see very well! We hear the zoom of cars and get very scared because we don’t know what the sound is. But we eventually make it home to our pile of warm dry leaves and curl up for a day of snoozing! At the end of the role play the children will be asked to talk about how it felt to be a hedgehog and how did they feel when they heard the cars, and felt the warm dry leaves at last!

Week Three - Ona, cloud rider – listening, knowledge and understanding of the world

The teacher will read the children a short story called Ona Cloud rider. In it she rides the clouds and has many adventures, making it rain frogs, teaching her frinds how to ride clouds, landing on mountains, travelling through lightening storms, going up into Space and more. The children will be asked if they’d like to be Ona and travel on a cloud? So we all get our clouds and set off on a journey experiencing the same things we heard about in the story. The children will recreate the sounds, sights and scenery that Ona had and even some new experiences of their own!

Week Fourv –Time machine – party concepts

The teacher will explain that the class is leaving nursery to go on a big adventure in the time machine. They have been invited to Mrs. Rabbits Birthday party two weeks ago. Before we go, we all build our very own Time machine to travel there in. Each child will choose a present for Mrs. Rabbit and discuss what food they would like to eat at the party. The presents will then be opened and party games will be played.

Workshops are £50 per hour – during this time we will work with two groups of up to 15 nursery children. Discounts may be available.
