Act One is dedicated to providing quality education in the performing arts. In addition to preparing students for a performing career, Act One is equally beneficial in developing confidence, articulation, communication skills, whilst encouraging creativity, team work and stretching the imagination.

Act One classes are offered to children and teenagers aged 4-16. Students work in age groups and the class sizes are restricted to 20 students per teacher. The high ratio of teachers to students is one of our keystones to success!

It is the policy of Act One that all staff are checked through the Criminal Records Bureau for their suitability to work with children. All our staff are experienced in teaching and are performers in their own right. Public Liability Insurance has been taken out to cover each teacher. Act One have a Child Protection Policy in place, please request a copy if required.

To achieve maximum results of training and proper progression, students are asked to attend all classes and rehearsals. To minimise absences, parents are urged to take into consideration classes and rehearsals when scheduling their children for appointments and when planning family holidays. Please be sure to call the Office or Act One mobile and leave a message to excuse a student from class, as we may call you to see why the child has not attended.
Students are expected to arrive on time for the start of their classes and rehearsals.

In order to achieve the skill level required in dance, drama and singing, students should understand the necessary level of focus and concentration that will be required of them prior to attending class.
Whilst we encourage ideas from students and wish classes to be fun, we politely request the co-operation and respectful behaviour to the teachers and other students. Students who are disruptive will be asked to observe the class so that others may continue their work. Act One reserves the right to dismiss students who are consistently disruptive.

Students may be invited to join Act One’s Agency at the discretion of the Directors. Representation by the Agency is free, but inclusion in the annually produced brochure, which is entirely voluntary, carries a charge for photography and printing. Neither acceptance onto our books, nor inclusion in the brochure in any way guarantees that professional engagements will be secured. The Agency will earn 10% from any engagement secured.

Act One classes require all students to wear the schools colours, black and bright red. We are striving to have a clean, uniformed look for our students. Act One logo T-shirts will be available to buy but are not compulsory but students must wear suitable clothing in the school colours: tights, leggings or jogging bottoms in black with a red round neck T-shirt. Black Pumps or Jazz shoes. Failure to do so on a regular occurrence will result in the student being asked to observe the class.

Tuition payments are required before the commencement of classes at the beginning of each month. This will allow the classes to start promptly each time. Tuition paid to Act One is not refundable. Tuition credits will be considered only in cases of prolonged absence due to illness substantiated by medical documentation.

If classes need to be cancelled due to inclement winter weather we are not able to telephone each individual student. Please call the office or Act One mobile number in the event of bad weather.
Act One is not responsible for classes cancelled as a result of extreme weather conditions or other circumstances beyond our control.

Act One believes in providing performing opportunities, acknowledging that experience is of ultimate importance in the quest for excellence. Consequently, each weekday class will give a minimum of 1 performance each year for family and friends. The Saturday Classes produce a minimum of 2 performances each year. The 2 week Summer School will have a presentation of their work on the final evening. Each student will be expected to sell a minimum of five tickets each

Parents will receive a report on their child’s progress every 6 months. This will outline the work they have been doing and their level of achievement. If you wish to discuss your child with a teacher, please refrain from asking them after classes and please arrange an appointment.
